Daciano da Costa (1930 – 2005) is considered one of the most prominent figures in Portuguese Design and played a key role in establishing Design as both a discipline and a profession in Portugal.

Daciano da Costa was one of the contributors to creating a contemporary landscape in Portugal, helping the country participate in the international modern movement by sharing the formal and conceptual principles that defined his era. What makes him a unique figure in the History of Design in Portugal is the diversity of fields in which he worked.

Since 1954, he developed his multifaceted career as a designer, becoming one of the pioneers of industrial design in Portugal and designing for various sectors of the national industry. Graduating in Painting from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts (1961), Daciano da Costa left visual arts to devote himself to design. He founded his studio, "Atelier Daciano da Costa," in 1959, and over the decades, he worked in interior design, industrial design, furniture design, and urban design.
