Adico, the oldest metal furniture company in the country, is forecasting a turnover of €4.7 million in 2024 and is gearing up to enter the markets of Canada, Australia, Poland, and Japan this year. The company is also reissuing several pieces by Daciano da Costa, the “father of Portuguese design.”

Among the reissued items is the iconic “Peninsular Chair,” which will be officially presented at the Maison et Objet fair, taking place in Paris from this Thursday through January 20.

“Adico will market the Peninsular Chair through its network as part of a partnership with the Daciano da Costa atelier, celebrating the union of national design with our industrial expertise,” said Miguel Carvalho, the furniture company’s administrator, in a statement to ECO/Local Online.

“It is a great privilege and source of pride for us to be part of the revitalization of these pieces,” Carvalho noted, adding that the company is also developing reissues of a sofa and a table designed by Daciano da Costa, adopting an approach that “respects the history and character of the original pieces.”

Founded in Estarreja, Adico gained prominence in the 1930s with its metal tables and chairs for outdoor seating, with the traditional “Portuguese chair” becoming its most iconic industrial product.
